8 Spring Activities for Babies to Make Beautiful Memories

Ah, at last the snow is melting! I don’t know about you, but after an unexpectedly long winter, my family is excited to finally come out of hibernation. If this is your baby’s first spring, you’re probably also eager to get outside, explore, and make some beautiful memories. But what do you do? So far, your baby’s experience might be limited to your own living room. Well, fear not!

Today, we’re going to go over some of my favorite baby-friendly spring activities. After long, cold winters, I’ll take any excuse to get out of the house, so most of these activities focus on getting outdoors and exploring nature. I hope these spring activities for babies inspire you as well!

Visit a Wildflower Farm

Did you know that wildflowers can bloom as early as April? Wildflower farms offer a host of stunning colors for your baby to admire and usually plenty of places to explore. Not to mention, plenty of photo opportunities.

Bonus points–you’re supporting a local business!

Typically, local farms offer a low gate fee, even if you’re not picking any flowers. You can also wait until the farm hosts a festival. Facebook is an excellent way to search for these kinds of events.

Get Easter Minis

Okay, this one’s a bit time-sensitive because photographers usually book up early.

In case you’re not familiar with the term, mini-sessions are usually 15-minute photo sessions held back-to-back on a certain date and location. Easter minis typically feature a cute backdrop filled with bunnies, eggs, crosses, or even live animals. It’s a fun experience for you and your baby!

I love mini sessions in particular because they’re insanely quick (less of a chance for melt-downs) and offered at a steeply discounted rate.

Alternatively, if you have an artistic eye and a great lens, you can try shooting your own easter session with a backdrop!

Visit a Butterfly Garden

Until a couple years ago, I had no idea that butterfly gardens were even a thing, but now that I do, it’s definitely a fave. A butterfly garden could be located outdoors or indoors. It’s basically a garden that attracts butterflies, moths, and other lovely pollinating insects.

Visiting one is a magical experience. It’s relaxing and allows your little one to gently explore the world of bugs.

Go to the Beach

Hold up. Go to the beach in the spring? YES!! It might be a little chilly, but now is the best time to go!

The summer sun can be an exhausting for you and for your baby. But a warm, spring day? Perfect! Not only is the beach less busy, but the surrounding restaurants and shops are hungry for customers.

Visit a farm

We love farms, particularly the llama variety! I love going to local farms for a couple reasons: 1., it’s cheaper and less busy than the zoo. And 2., you’re supporting a local business!

A good farm offers your baby a chance to become acclimated to farm animals, and give them some new sensory details to explore. The scent of hay, the bristles of a horse’s muzzle. Plus, they usually offer some homemade preserves!

Take a Roadtrip

Baby on the trail- Things to do with babies in the spring (1)

Look, I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’ve been wanting to try a road trip with your baby… do it. Spring is the best time! You don’t have to deal with all the summer crowds and the weather is absolutely perfect. Go to Disney World (it’s fun even with a baby, I promise), go to a National Park, or maybe just take a three-day weekend.

It’s so worth it!

My husband and I took our first road trip when my daughter was about six months. There were a few hiccups (she was not thrilled with sleeping in a room that wasn’t her own, but we learned from that and I have some great tips to share because of it!), but we made some beautiful memories there.

If you’re a little nervous because your baby hates the car, here’s a helpful article to give you some ideas on how to tackle that.

Pick strawberries

If you’ve never visited a U-pick farm, you totally should! I’m suggesting strawberries, but typically these farms offer different fruits throughout the spring and summer seasons. Basically, you show up, pay for a certain basket size, and fill it to your heart’s delight. Some of the U-pick farms offer hayrides to the picking location, which is certainly our favorite part.

Easter Egg Hunt

What is spring without Easter? Your baby may not be the fastest hunter in the world yet, but I bet they’ll still enjoy snagging colorful eggs on a beautiful Easter day!

Facebook is our favorite source for easter egg hunts. Farms, family rec centers, and churches typically post their events publicly, so you’ll have a host of options to choose from.

What are your favorite things to do in the spring with a baby?

Some of these activities make excellent traditions that your little one will enjoy for the rest of their life. That’s so, so important! Don’t stress, though, if your baby doesn’t completely see the vision. Some (my oldest daughter was one of them) don’t necessarily adjust well to new environments. And that’s okay! Just go slow and remember this too shall pass.
