What Is Simply Earth?
First of all, who am I and What is Simply Earth?
I’m Erin, a stay-at-home mom of 2 and part-time essential oil enthusiast. I guess I’m kind of a crunchy mom. That is, I like all-natural products and I try to be conscious of what comes around my babies. I started writing about essential oils in 2018 (I think), after I was introduced to Simply Earth.
Since then, they are the only essential oil manufacturer that I’ve used.
They’re only the best essential oil manufacturer ever. I love this company because they produce 100% pure therapeutic essential oils for a fraction of the price of their competitors.
And they do it with completely ethical business practices.
Simply Earth starts their process by directly coordinating with ethical international farmers to gather the best ingredients. These ingredients are shipped to SE’s warehouse in Wisconsin, where are oils are distilled in-house. The oils are either cold-pressed or steam extracted, it just depends on the best method for each ingredient.
The oils are then rigorously tested by a third-party to verify that every batch is completely pure and without additives. (They post their GS/MS test results on their website for everyone to see. That’s also another mark of a great essential oil manufacturer).
Have you’ve ever wondered why other essential oil companies are so expensive? They use a MLM program, third-party distributors, and increase the margins that hike up the price.
Simply Earth, however does the work themselves and passes along the savings to their customers. They package their oils and sells them directly to the customer.
Pretty cool, huh?

What’s in the Simply Earth Recipe Box
They offer a monthly subscription box that serves two purposes: 1., it allows their customers to save the most money 2., it encourages customers to replace their everyday, toxic household items with natural alternatives. 3., the boxes teach newbies how to use essential oils in fun ways!
Every box includes 4 essential oils, 6 recipes, and 2-3 bonuses to help make the recipes. This month, the theme is, of course, diffusing!
In this Simply Earth June 2023 box review, we’re going to make some of the recipes and check out the essential oils included.
Essential Oils
Clove
I feel like I say this every month, but clove is one of my favorite essential oils. It smells so good!! I’m an Autumn girl, so clove reminds me of pumpkin pies, cold weather, and sweaters.
Not to mention, diffusing clove is good for a wealth of benefits.
Studies have found that clove essential oil can ease digestive issues, improve your respiratory health, and, interestingly enough, relieve toothaches.
It’s true! A 2006 study compare the relieving capabilities of cloves with that of benzocaine. Colgate actually has a recipe on their website for homemade toothpain solution.
Basically, Clove is a good oil to keep around.
Anise Star
I don’t think I’ve ever used anise star, but now I’m a fan. The closest scent I can equate it to is black licorise.
This is a good oil to use when you’re suffering from respiratory ailments, like bronchitis, the flu, or the common cold. It can also relieve muscle aches (i.e. cold chills).
Fit
Every month, SE sends out a blend with their recipe box. I’ve used this blend before and found it incredibly invigorating. Which isn’t surprising; Fit is a combination of grapefruit, spearmint, and lavender. These are “feel-good” oils that can cheer up even the grumpiest grump.
In addition, the Fit Blend is great for dispelling headaches, dulling food cravings, and promoting relaxation.
Peppermint
Ah, yes, peppermint. If I had to have one oil in my house, this would be at the top of the list. I’ve used it for so much! Easing migraines, breaking up phlegm, invigorating my mood, and enhancing my DIY cleaning products.
I should also note that the peppermint included with the Simply Earth June 2023 recipe box is actually “Peppermint Supreme.”
Basically, you can buy three different types of peppermints. Terpeneless, Supreme, and Japanese. Supreme contains a compound called menthofuran, and is traditionally used for aromatherapy.
The Recipes
Before receiving this box, I would have never thought of diffusing oils in these ways. An added bonuses…they’re ridiculously easy to make. Some of them you literally just mix together and you’re done. Below, we are going to make three of them together.
In the meantime, here are all of the recipes included in the box:
- Spice Summer Potpourri Bark
- Candied Clove Gel Air Freshener
- DIY Fit Diffuser Key Chain
- Almond Joy Roll-On Blend
- Sweet Mint Diffuser Blend
- Blossom Reed Diffuser
The Bonuses
This month’s recipe box is valued at $180 (but you can snag it for just $44.99) and I suspect that is because of these amazing bonuses.
DIY Diffuser Key Chain Kit
Did you know that unstained wood actually soaks up wood quite well? Likewise, it also diffuses scents really well. If you’re somewhat sensitive to scents and looking for a more subtle method of diffusion, I think you’ll enjoy key chain kit.
Reed Diffuse Bouquet
It’s exactly as it sounds. Except, instead of sticks, we’re using wood flower stems to diffuse. They are adorable!
Natural Solubilizer
This allows the oils to disperse evenly within a water solution. In the tutorials below, we’ll be using natural solubilizer for our bark recipe. This is an all-natural product, composed of Caprylyl and Capryl Glucoside.
DIY Diffuser Tutorials
Blossom Reed Diffusers
Ingredients
- 5 doors Clove Essential Oil
- 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 1 Drop Anise Star Essential Oil
- 23 drops Simply Earth Natural Solubilizer
- Reed Diffuser Bouquet
- 1 oz. Distilled Water
- Small 1oz jar with a narrow neck. (I used an essential oil bottle and an oil reed diffuser reed cap from a past recipe box.)
- 6 Drops Simply Earth Geogard ECT Preservative (optional. I didn’t use this)
This recipe is so easy that you probably don’t need a tutorial, but how could I not showcase it?
To make this recipe, just fill the jar with distilled water. Mix the essential oils and 11 drops of natural solubilizer in a small bowl. Add the rest of the solubilizer drop by drop to ensure that it is distributed evenly.
Add the water from the jar. Once again, we want to make sure that we’re mixing the solution completely. Add the Geogard (if using).
Pour mixture back into the jar and add the bouquet. Voila! Adorable and it smells good.
DIY Fit Diffuser Key Chain
Ingredients
- DIY Diffuser Keychain Kit
- 3 drops Fit Essential Oil Blend
Tie a knot at one end of the string. Add the beads however you see fit. Tie the other end and cut the excess string. Add 3 drops of the fit blend to the natural wood beads.
That’s it! Simple but effective.
Spice Summer Potpourri Bark
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp beeswax
- 2 Tbsp solid coconut oil
- 10 drops Clove Essential Oil
- 10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 5 Drops Anise Star Essential Oil
- 20 drops Fit Essential Oil
- Dried flowers or spices (I used whole cloves)
- Small pan or microwavable bowl
- Parchment paper or silicone mold (once again, I used a mold from a previous box).
This recipe is a bit more complex, but it’s still easy and totally worth it.
Now, you can use a double-broiler to melt the waxes or just microwave them in short intervals ( 15 seconds at a time). I used a microwave.
Melt the beeswax and coconut oil. Usually I recommend allowing the oils to cool slightly, but this time I added the essential oils immediately. So, stir in the oils.
Pour the wax mixture into the mold. Quickly add decorative dried flowers or spices to the wax. Personally, I added a few to the bottom of the mold first, and then some on top.
Let it cool completely and then hang it wherever you’d like!
