Simply Earth Cleaning Line Review: Natural Cleaners I Actually Love!

Are the cleaning products in your home irritating your skin? The Simply Earth Cleaning Line could be the alternative you’ve been searching for.

I tested Simply Earth’s all natural cleaning solutions for about a month. Here are the results!

Simply Earth Cleaning Line Review (1)

As more and more families become aware of the toxins used in everyday cleaning products, more and more natural alternatives are becoming available.

But natural cleaning products that work well and don’t cost an arm and a leg? That’s another story…

I’ve actually been making DIY cleaning solutions with essential oils for years. I was introduced to the concept by my favorite essential oil manufacturer, Simply Earth, in 2019. Since then, I’m made DIY oven cleaners, stain removers, cleaning sprays, and so much more.

When Simply Earth shared they were releasing an entire cleaning line, I was excited. Too say the least.

Simply Earth is now offering natural alternatives to your everyday, chemical-ridden cleaning products: dishwasher tabs, Swedish dishcloths, and laundry detergent sheets.

In this post, I’m sharing my experience with these new cleaning products. We’ll take a good look at their performance, cost, and best practices to get the most effective results.

Dishwasher Tabs

I only recommend what I trust. Blunders in Babyland does not diagnose, treat, or advise medical conditions. I received this recipe box for free in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

I’m not going to lie, I’m talking about the dishwasher tabs first because I love them the most.

When you’re looking at cleaning solutions–particularly the ones that clean objects you put in your mouth–the ingredients matter. The biggest difference between the Simply Earth dishwasher tabs and your regular, name-brand dishwasher tabs is the chemicals used.

Or rather, which chemicals aren’t used. To kick off this review, let’s talk about the chemicals these dishwasher tabs are not using.

The Ingredients

SLS Free

What’s SLS? Sodium lauryl sulfate is a chemical added to many soaps to help with oil and grease removal. Sometimes it’s derived from petroleum (bleh!), other times it can actually be made from plants. While SLS is probably a safe ingredient, it’s often created from sketchy sources. It can also be an irritant.

No Parabens

Parabens are basically preservatives. They perform an important job–protecting your products from bacterial growth. However, like SLS, they can cause irritation and, according to some studies, decreased fertility.

Ideally, not the kind of thing you want to clean your dishes with, right?

Fragrance Free

That’s right, these dishwasher tabs are fragrance free. Many name brand dishwasher tabs are scented with perfumes, which can cause allergic reactions and a chemical-y taste.

Performance

Coming in to this, I was a little nervous about two things: The SLS-free thing. We love to hate SLS, but it actually performs a pretty big job for us, right?

It helps remove the grime from your dishes! So, I was a little nervous that a product without SLS wouldn’t clean my dirtier dishes.

I have used nothing but these dishwasher tabs since Simply Earth sent them to me. Except once, just to test out the difference. In this time, I’ve had nothing but great results. As far as I can tell, my dishes are coming out just as clean as they were with Cascade dishwasher tabs.

Next is the fragrance. Or lack thereof. Sometimes my water smells a little…odd. With a fragrance-free dishwasher tab, would my dishes smell the same? I have used the Simply Earth dishwasher tablets with every washing and every load smells…like nothing. It’s amazing.

I’ve also noticed less soap residue since I’ve started using these tabs.

The Disadvantages

I honestly don’t have any complaints.

However, I can’t testify to the performance of these tabs with pots and pans. Generally, I handwash these items.

Swedish Dish Clothes

Simply Earth Cleaning Line - Swedish Dishcloths (1)
Such a cheerful selection of patterns!

The stinky sponge has been an unwanted accessory on my kitchen counter since adulthood. These Swedish dishcloths, however, make me happy every time I see them.  Just look at the designs! They’re adorable.

Prior to Simply Earth sending me the April 2023 box, I had zero clue what Swedish dishcloths even were. If you’re scratching your head too, that’s totally understandable.

Swedish dishcloths are an eco-friendly and non-toxic alternative to paper towels and scrubbies. The best part? They are reusable! Every cloth is worth 12 rolls of paper towels.

Simply Earth includes 5 dishcloths for $12.99 on their website, which is a steal! That equates to 60 rolls of paper towels for $12.99. Mother Nature and your wallet will thank you for this decision.

When your dishcloth starts to look a little nasty, you just need to throw it in the dishwasher (on the top row).

Rinse and repeat!

The Ingredients

As a mom of two, I feel guilty about the amount of paper my family consumes. That said, I am so glad Simply Earth introduced me to the concept of Swedish dishtowels.

This product is made of cellulose and cotton. Both renewable materials and biodegradable.

Performance

Once again, I love this product. I’ve been saving soooo much money in paper towels. Costco is going to wonder why I haven’t been back there lately.

The Swedish dishcloth is incredibly absorbent. There were a couple large spills where I had to go back to the sink to rinse, but for most everything else, the Swedish dishcloth got the job done.

It cleaned my dishes very well. The bottom material is fairly grippy, so it was able to handle grease without being too abrasive.

As far as longevity, I’ve been using it for about a month and I think it’s about time to switch it out.

The Disadvantages

Overall, I liked the performance of the Swedish dishcloth. Simply Earth advertises that it doesn’t have that weird old towel smell. I agree with this statement. However, after a certain point, it does start to smell and look pretty grimy. That’s a pretty good indicator that it’s time to throw it in the dishwasher. And if that doesn’t help, it’s time to replace it.

Also, I would not recommend throwing away your brush or scrubby just yet. While Simply Earth’s cloth handled everyday dishes and spills quite well, it’s a little too gentle for tough residue.

Laundry Detergent Sheets

Simply Earth laundry sheet (2)
For small loads, use half of the sheet. For larger loads, use a full sheet. I used about 10 drops of essential oils for full loads.

I desperately wish I would’ve had these when my daughter was a newborn and everything irritated her skin. It would’ve saved me so much money in baby detergent!

The Simply Earth Laundry Detergent Sheets are all-natural, fragrance-free (unless you want them to be scented!), and work so, so well. To use these sheets, you just add it to your washer drum. I have a high-efficiency washer and this product works just fine with it.

The Ingredients

Once again, we’re looking at a product that does not contain regular skin irritants like SLS, parabens, fragrances, or dyes. If you suffer from dermatitis, these sheets could be the non-toxic alternative you’ve been searching for.

Performance

As you can see, the sheets break in the middle. For smaller loads, just use a half sheet and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. For color loads, I like to add Sweet Orange, and for my whites, I love using Simply Earth’s Fresh and Clean Blend.

I recommend using an entire sheet on full loads. I added 10 drops of oil to each side of the sheet.

This product is dissolvable. As far as I can tell, I’ve never noticed a residue in the washer or on my clothes.

Speaking of clothes, mine get pretty clean from these laundry detergent sheets. My daughter’s Sunday dress had a spaghetti sauce stain on it and it actually came out. I was extremely impressed.

With that said….

The Disadvantages

Simply Earth Laundry Detergent Sheets in Action (1)
If you’re looking for a recommendation of which essential oil to use in your laundry, it’s this!! It smells so good!

If you have athletic wear or your kids like to spill chocolate on their white shirts (ahem), I recommend adding a little baking soda to your load. With a splash of baking soda, I was also able to successfully clean my daughter’s poor victims outfits that didn’t make it through potty training.

If you notice that the sheets aren’t cleaning as effectively as your last detergent, or you’re having to use 1.5 sheets on a regular basis, try adding the sheets to your detergent reservoir. Sometimes the soap isn’t distributed properly when it’s added to the drum.

Pricing on Simply Earth’s Cleaning Line

In case you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of these products. I think Simply Earth did a fantastic job creating them and, based on my experience with their essential oils and other products, I trust that they used ethical business practices to do it!

But how does the price of Simply Earth’s cleaning line stack up to the competition? For essential oils, Simply Earth is the clear winner. Simply Earth generally sells oils at half or a quarter of the price as their competitors.

What about the cleaning line?

Well, let’s look at Grove Collective, another major player in the natural cleaning products game. I found that Simply Earth’s products were very competitively priced with GC’s.
