Simply Earth August 2022 Box Review + Tutorials
Fall is quickly approaching and you know what that means! Simply Earth’s candle-making box is here!!!

Unboxing the Simply Earth August 2022 Recipe Box
First of all, what’s a recipe box?
Every month Simply Earth sends out a subscription box including everything you need to make some awesome DIY essential oil recipes. Every month contains a new theme. This helps beginner and novice essential oil users like me LEARN how to actually use oils and do more than mix a couple diffuser blends (but don’t worry, they include recipes for those too).

Essential Oils Included in the Simply Earth August 2022 Recipe Box
Liquid Luck Blend
I think this might be my new favorite blend and not just because of the Harry Potter reference. It smells…amazing. As I type this, it’s running in my diffuser, filling my office with cinnamon-y sweet vibes. Liquid Luck is a combination of cassia, Amyris, Ho Wood, and Sweet Orange.
It’s the blend you want to use for feel-good emotions and, thanks to its antibacterial properties, it makes a great cleaning oil.
Peppermint
I love using peppermint essential oil in my candles! Combine it with something like blood orange, and you have a scent that is both calming AND energizing. Peppermint essential oil is used to get rid of pesky headaches, help your digestive system, and disinfect.
Fir Needle
It’s a Christmas tree in a bottle. This is the oil you want to use during the cold season, when you need to boost your immune system, lift your mood, and get rid of a nasty cough. You can also use it to soothe your muscle aches during “that time.”
Blood Orange
First of all, what’s the difference between Blood Orange essential oil and Orange essential oil? Use blood orange if you really enjoy the citrus-y scent. Use (sweet) Orange for a more candied scent. Blood orange can help with digestion, decrease your appetite, and delivers cancer-fighting antioxidants.

Most of the recipes included in the Simply Earth August box are, in fact, dedicated to candle-making with beeswax sheets. I really appreciate that they offered multiple ways to try it out.

Recipe Tutorials
Are you ready to make some DIY candles? For the tutorial section of my Simply Earth August 2022 box review, I decided to make some candles and the wax tarts.
Beeswax Pillar Candle
Ingredients Needed:
- 1 Beeswax Sheet
- Wick
- 5 Drops Liquid Luck Essential Oil Blend
- Cotton ball or cotton swab
- Gloves (if you don’t want to get your hands sticky)
I’m not going to lie, I’ve never made beeswax candles and the concept intimidated the heck out of me. So, I started with what looked to be the most basic: the pillar candle.
To make this candle, simply lay the beeswax sheet on your table or counter. Swab the essential oils across the candle with a cotton ball or cotton swab. Place the wick across the SHORT SIDE of the sheet, right near the edge (I would say with about a fingernail width between the wick and the edge.) The wick should hang across the sheet ¼ on both sides. Press the wick into the beeswax sheet slightly. I found that super helpful once I started rolling it.
Tightly fold the edge of the sheet over the wick. The sheet will most likely crack a little bit. If you have a lighter handy, can warm the sheet a little. I just used my fingers to kind of smush it back into place.
Roll the candle tightly and evenly. To seal the seam, I pressed my finger into the sheet and gradually warmed the seam. Tuck the bottom strand of the wick onto the base of the candle.
Place your new rolled beeswax candle into a candle holder and voila! Done.
Twin Twirly Candles
Ingredients Needed
- 1 Sheet Beeswax
- Wick
- 5 Drops Fir Needle Essential Oil
- Cotton Ball or Cotton Swab
- Gloves (if you don’t want to get wax and oils on your fingers)
These candles are beautiful and really easy to make, believe it or not. This time, we’re going to place the beeswax sheet with the short end in front of us. Make a mark ¼” below the upper lefthand corner. Then, make a mark ¼” above the lower righthand corner.
Cut straight from mark to mark. The end result is a trapezoid (see my picture).
The short flat part of the trapezoid is our candle’s base. Put the wick on the edge of beeswax sheet (the tips should overhand the very large flat section of the trapezoid and the short flat section. Roll it up tightly. Once again, we’re going to have to smush the beeswax sheet together when it starts cracking apart. Push the wick into the bottom of the candle and you’re done!
Liquid Luck Wax Tarts
Ingredients Needed:
- 1 TBPS Beeswax (This came in your free Bonus Box when you first subscribed to Simply Earth)
- 1 TBSP Solid Coconut Oil
- 15 Drops Liquid Gold Essential Oil Blend
- Leaf Wax Mold
Let’s make some scenties! Combine the waxes in a bowl. Melt the waxes by either microwaving them at small intervals or using a double-broiler. I nuked the oils at intervals of 10 seconds (stirring in between). Once the oils have melted, add the Liquid Luck. Pour the oils into the molds. Let the wax cool completely before attempting to peel away the molds.
And that’s it! Super simple.
